How it works

Network monitoring is heavily reliant on SNMP connections to provide data on status. Because so many devices use different types of operating systems and processing structures, a universal language to communicate with all of them needs to be in place. Network monitoring uses a collector to gather this and other forms of data and presents it in a meaningful way. The solution also integrates directly with our ticketing system to allow for automatic generation and closing of tickets when healed. It allows us to provide rapid responses to network event and historical clarity to help detect recurring trends.

Deployment

The solution requires a collector to be deployed and attached to the environment. If there are multiple sites, the collector must be able to reach all the locations via secure channel (VPN is the preferred solution) The collector maintains communication with the devices and should be hosted outside the environment to prevent loss of contact with the central reporting system. Our recommendation is to host this on an azure-based server in the cloud if a collector is not available to be used onsite. Deployment is executed by either the onboarding team or the NOC and validated with the customer prior to completion.

Exclusions

Ntiva utilizes network monitoring solutions from globally recognized industry leaders, covering over 3000 manufacturers. The scope of monitoring varies, as some manufacturers offer limited monitoring capabilities, while others may not support it at all. The SNMP standard, despite its wide range of functions, is limited by the access and reporting options manufacturers choose to enable. Some equipment types or specific pieces may not be compatible with standard monitoring and might require customized solutions to ensure similar levels of surveillance as supported devices. These instances are typically identified during deployment, but can also emerge at a later stage as they are discovered.
